Can you use the GO taxi app without a Japanese phone number?
Yes.
GO has taken overseas mobile numbers since November 2023. If you can’t receive a text at all, it offers an identity check by passport photo and selfie inside the app — which is what makes it usable on a data-only eSIM.
Can’t receive the GO verification text?
GO documents a passport-and-selfie registration route when SMS verification is unavailable. In the app, choose “Cannot receive a SMS message?” and follow its instructions.
- A valid passport
- An email address you can verify
- A working camera and a suitable place to take photos
- Complete the GO Pay setup step in the registration flow
